Theresan Military Academy
The Theresan Military Academy serves as the training centre and is regarded as the “home of officers” of the Austrian Armed Forces.
Founded by Empress Maria Theresia on 14 December 1751, the Theresan Military Academy is the oldest active military academy in the world dedicated entirely to officer training.
Today, the Theresan Military Academy serves several functions:
- Basic Officer Training for career officers
- Advanced Officer Training
- School education
- Representation and event purposes of the armed forces and the city of Wiener Neustadt
Officer Cadets undergo three years of education and training, including the Bachelor programme "Military Leadership" or “Military Information and Communication Technology Leadership”. They graduate with a Bachelor’s degree and are commissioned as second lieutenants.
The Theresan Military Academy also hosts the Federal Commercial College for Leadership and Security (BHAK für Führung und Sicherheit), allowing pupils to pass their Matura (A-levels). This specialized school combines academic education with military-oriented training for its pupils.
The Campus
The campus of the Theresan Military Academy consists of of multiple, functionally connected buildings and sports facilities. Also part of the Campus is the Academy Park - 186 hectares of woods, fields and waters.
“The Castle” hosts the Academy Headquarters, lecture rooms for the basic officer training and officer cadets accomodations.
“Daun-barracks” are the home of the Federal Commercial College for Leadership and Security (BHAK für Führung und Sicherheit).
In 2025, two new buildings have been constructed: The accomodation-building and the dining hall.
