The first competition-day of the 68th World Military Penthatlon Championship was dedicated to the shooting event, the opening discipline of the five-event competition. At the shooting range, the athletes competed for the first valuable points towards the overall individual and team classifications. Precision, concentration and consistency were essential, as every shot contributed directly to the championship standings.
The men’s individual competition was decided by the narrowest of margins. Jonas Lemvig (Denmark) secured victory with 197 rings and 1121.8 points, finishing just 1 ring ahead of Louis Gaj (Germany), who recorded 196 rings and 1116.2 points.
The women’s individual competition was equally close. Heryca Tayla (Brazil) claimed first place with 197 rings and 1122.8 points, narrowly defeating Han Danyang (China), who finished only 1 ring behind with 196 rings and 1114.4 points.
In the men’s team classification, Denmark delivered the strongest overall performance of the day, securing first place with 4438.4 points. The women’s team title went to Brazil, whose athletes combined for 3222.5 points to claim victory in the opening discipline.
The newcomer classifications were won by Joao Miquel (Brazil) in the men’s category with 193 rings and Aline Bichoff (Brazil) in the women’s category with 193 rings, completing an impressive start to the 68th World Military Penthatlon Championship.
The impressive flower ceremony took place in the Pentathlon Arena to honour the winners of the day.
Attention now turns to the second day of competition, when the athletes will face the demanding Obstacle Course, a discipline that combines speed, agility and technical skill. At the same time, the Penthatlon Highlight Day at the Theresian Military Academy is expected to attract numerous spectators, creating a lively atmosphere and providing visitors with the opportunity to experience the Military Pentathlon and the Austrian Armed Forces up close.
