Obstacle Run
The second competition day of the 68th World Military Pentathlon Championship featured one of the most spectacular disciplines of the championship – the Obstacle Run.
On the 500-metre obstacle course, athletes had to overcome 20 standardized obstacles while combining speed, agility and technical precision. The demanding course once again demonstrated why the obstacle run is considered the highlight of the Military Pentathlon, with every second proving decisive in the battle for valuable championship points. The hot weather conditions - up to 40 degrees Celcius - were an an additional challenge.
The men’s competition was won by Abderaouf Boudab (Algeria) in a time of 2:18,6 minutes, ahead of Yassine Ghibour (Algeria) with 2:18,9 minutes. In the women’s event, Cassandra Bjelkerud (Norway) claimed victory in 2:19,4 minutes, narrowly defeating Nadja Kimmel (Germany), who crossed the finish line in 2:20,5 minutes.
The Pentathlon Highlight Day attracted numerous visitors to the campus of the Theresian Military Academy and was very well received by the local community and the wider Wiener Neustadt region. Hundreds of spectators followed the exciting obstacle run and enjoyed the lively atmosphere created throughout the day. Alongside the sporting action, visitors were able to take part in a wide range of activities, including a children’s obstacle course, skill challenges, a helicopter simulator, a bouncy castle and the appearance of the Pentathlon Legends. A gastro area and live performances by the Military Band of Burgenland, followed by the duo Mini & Claus, completed the entertainment programme and made the event a memorable experience for competitors and visitors alike.
After two disciplines, Joao Miguel (Brazil) leads the men’s overall standings with 2234.5 points. In the women’s competition, Han Danyang tops the overall classification with 2243.9 points.
The competition continues tomorrow with the Obstacle Swim and the Throwing event, where valuable points will once again be at stake in the race for the overall titles.
