Cross Country Run
The fourth and final day of the individual competitions at the 68th World Military Pentathlon Championship concluded with the Cross-Country Run. Men competed over 8 kilometres, while the women covered a distance of 4 kilometres. Athletes started according to the overall standings after the first four disciplines, with the point differences converted into staggered start intervals. As a result, the first athlete to cross the finish line was crowned the overall Military Pentathlon World Champion.
The men’s race delivered an exciting finish. Kristoffer Skonnord (Norway) started the race in sixth position but had a remarkable fightback, overtaking the overall leader Pascal Remmele (Germany) during the final kilometre to secure the world title. Remmele crossed the finish line shortly afterwards to claim the silver medal, completing a thrilling conclusion to the men’s championship.
The women’s competition was equally dramatic. Nadja Kimmel (Germany) secured the overall world title after completing the 4 km Cross-Country Run in 14:12.1 minutes. The race took an unexpected turn when Han Danyang (China) crossed the finish line first but received a 50-point penalty for entering the wrong finish channel. The Chinese delegation lodged a protest against the decision, but the appeal was rejected. The penalty therefore remained in place and ultimately cost Danyang the overall championship title.
In the men’s team classification, Brazil delivered the strongest overall performance, securing first place. Austria finished in second place, while Denmark claimed third place in a highly competitive team event.
The women’s team title went to China, whose athletes combined for the best overall result to claim victory. Denmark secured second place, followed by Brazil in third place.
The newcomer classifications were won by Filippa Wetke (Denmark) in the women’s category and Joao Miguel (Brazil) in the men’s category, both demonstrating outstanding performances in the opening discipline.
With the individual competitions concluded, the focus now shifts to the final event of the championship. Tomorrow, the participating nations will contest the spectacular Obstacle Relay, bringing the 68th CISM Military World Championship in Military Pentathlon to an exciting conclusion.
